Be the Reflection!

My New Year’s goal was to create a blog. Not just any blog, but a blog that could make a difference. One that could really impact people’s lives.  I think the hardest part was coming up with the name. I'm serious. I struggled with this for at least two weeks. I had to ask myself, "what am I tyring to accomplish"? While in prayer, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I don't want to be seen as Laura, this random person doing good deeds for others. I want to people to see Jesus working through me, His reflection.

Now that I have a blog and know what I want to do, where should I start? I reached out to a out of fellow bloggers and received the hand-holding support I needed to dive in. Thank you Absolute Mommy, The Shine Project and Tea with Kimmie.

My first project is since I'm a photographer, I'll start by donating my time and services to those who normally couldn't afford to have portraits taken. You can check out my photography site Laura Hernandez Photography for more details.

Together with a group of local teenagers (which one is my daughter), we've created Spreading Randoms Acts of Kindness. You can check out their Facebook page by clicking here.

In October we spent a day handing over 30 bags full of everyday necessities to the homeless. The bags included food, bottled water, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks and much more.

Last week we hosted an event at a local senior living home bringing in live jazz music (played by the teens) and home made desserts for them to enjoy. This night was such a huge blessing. That night, after almost 15 years, I was reunited with my grandmother. Praise God! We were there to bring joy to them, and it was poured back on us. Check out a video we created from that eventing by clicking here.

Now we're planning our next event for March. We'll be working with a local Children's Cancer Support Service. To host the event we want, we've got to fundraise so we're thinking about hosting a local concert in February too. Whew I got tired just thinking about it. No seriously, I'm SO excited to start making an impact, a change, in other peoples lives.

Ashley at The Shine Project has given us a challenge to be the best we can be. Very motivating. So I've linked up with her to make a difference. Not on in 2012 but for the rest of our lives. In the near future I hope Ashley and I can connect and bring one of her SHINE events to Salinas.

Want to jump into this journey with me? Comment below or shoot me an email momsgonnasnap@gmail.com. Let's be His reflection.

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. 1 Corinthians 13:12

Blessings,
Laura
