I Finally Gave In

A much needed getaway weekend. When our hometown decided that it wasn't going to have a 4th of July firework show we knew right away we were heading on a road trip. A simple overnight escape is unbelievable for the mind and just what I needed. I have to admit, June was a little overwhelming. I constantly felt behind. I was always rushing to get a post completed, had a photo shoot every weekend and sometimes more, wedding season officially started, school got out and summer break was underway, work was chaotic, and the last thing I had time to do was respond to emails. I felt horrible.

I put my foot down. I would NOT let July continue this way. So what did I do? For starters I took a few days off from posting. That was very hard for me since I like to post everyday. In that time, I hit emails like there was no tomorrow. I knew I had missed a lot of deadlines, somethings I just had to let pass without stressing over. I responded to EVERY email that needed responding to, scheduled a few guest posts and hired an assistant.

Yeah I said it. I hired an assistant. How did I know it was time? Well it hit me like a ton of bricks. I started blogging to document our lives, as a journal of photos and memories. I reached a point where I felt as if I was drowning. As my little blog was rapidly growing, so was my photography business. I still had my day job and not to mention my family. Our family time was suffering because mommy was always "tired" or "too busy." Well no more!

June was over. I felt very accomplished and ready for a fresh start. The 4th of July came at the perfect time for our little family to hit the road. Destination: Morro Bay, CA.

My advise to you, let your blog be part of your life, not take it over. Trust me, I learned the hard way.

  3. I couldn't agree with you more about letting your blog be a part of your life but not taking it over! That's something I'm struggling with right now & I'm going to be making changes to get back to the reason I started doing it to start with!

  9. I totally agree. I've been weighing the amount of time I've been spending on my blog and shop to what I give to my family. These photos are great, looks like you had a great time! Thanks for sharing this. xoxo

  10. Awww your photos make me so homesick!! I went to high school in Atascadero & went to Morro Bay all the time [although, I must admit Pismo Beach was always my favorite though Morro Bay was closer]. I haven't been back there in over 5 years, I definitely need a trip to California!!

I'm happy you feel refreshed & blogging definitely should not take over your life! Looks like a fun family trip!!

I want to move my family to southern California from Worcester, South Africa. The climate is nearly the same. You can check out my photography blog and my parenting blog to see pics of our surroundings. I also have a Christian mom blog, a poetry blog and share a 5th blog with hubby.
